Checkered rugs

A large amount of The Souks’ rugs are vintage. This means that the carpets are pre-loved and have already been used. Most of our checkered rugs on the other hand, are specially woven for The Souks, so these pieces are new. If you have any questions about a specific item, please email info@thesouks.com.

Yes! All carpets are cleaned before we send them to you.

You can vacuum a checkerboard carpet well at home. Do this regularly to prevent waste, crumbs and leftovers from soaking into the carpet. If you want to clean your carpet properly, you can use a special carpet cleaner or carpet shampoo after vacuuming. Follow the instructions provided. Never use cleaning agents that are not especially suitable for (woolen) carpets. We recommend having your carpet properly cleaned by a professional company. They often have a home service. We know several such companies, feel free to email us for tips.

In case of stains, it is best to act ASAP. Dab the stain gently with a damp cloth (not wet) with lukewarm water with vinegar. Do not roughly scrub or rub, this can damage the quality of the wool and cause the colours to bleed. For stubborn stains, for example wine, it is best to do this with lukewarm water instead of cold. In the case of fruit juice, sparkling water is a good idea. Then place a tea towel over this and let it absorb the stain completely. After cleaning, always let the rug dry completely.

The checked rug is a good example of a rug that can be made to measure. This rug will be woven especially for you, in the colour and size of your choice. Tip of the hat! Stick painter’s tape on your floor to tape out the size. That way you can try and experience which size fits your interior. In our experience, you often need a wider carpet than your sofa is wide, to create a feeling of space and make the furniture fit together.

We understand that you want to see if the carpet of your dreams actually fits into your interior and matches your furniture. Order the rug in our online shop, and if it’s not what you hoped for, you can always return it. This does not apply to custom rugs, however, as they are woven especially for you.
